John the Baptist knew at least three things. The way that people were worshipping God was a problem. A way for everyone to come home to God was at hand. And, he wasn't the one to bring it about. Everyone kept wanting John to be that answer, but John, like a good prophet, pointing everyone in the right direction - towards God among us.
